Service eligibility and regional restrictions
PuppyIP serves only compliant overseas businesses and their authorized personnel. Proxy services are not available in mainland China. The service may only be used for lawful business activities outside mainland China. Use of this service within mainland China is prohibited.
Hosting a proxy IP or server overseas does not change these restrictions. The service must not be provided to end users in mainland China through relaying, forwarding, sharing or resale. Before use, read the Terms of Service.
Key Takeaways
- The October 7 CLI 0.161.0 release makes Daybreak opt-in; daybreak=true alone is insufficient.
- Enable with --enable cli_daybreak or features.cli_daybreak=true. Resumed threads and background turns also obey the gate.
- Automatic routing still needs eligible ChatGPT login, built-in OpenAI provider and actual model/program support; the flag grants no entitlement.
- codex exec --cyber-access-program explicitly overrides one turn even with the gate off, without changing saved choices.
A missing entry does not establish lost account access
OpenAI changed Daybreak activation in the October 7, 2026 CLI 0.161.0 release. At review, npm stable latest remained 0.161.0; alpha is prerelease, not stable.
Without cli_daybreak enabled, interactive controls, status and /daybreak are hidden/unavailable. An older daybreak=true setting alone no longer enables them.
Saved threads also stop automatic Cyber-program routing by default, without deleting preferences. If ordinary sessions work but the special entry disappears, inspect version and feature gate first.
Enable the gate explicitly when needed
Run codex --version in the actual terminal to identify its CLI. A command-line release does not update desktop, extensions or every terminal synchronously; another computer's UI does not establish local state.
Use codex --enable cli_daybreak for one launch. For persistent activation, set features.cli_daybreak=true in effective configuration, or cli_daybreak = true under TOML [features].
User settings are usually ~/.codex/config.toml; trusted projects can use .codex/config.toml. CLI, project and profile precedence matters. Check effective configuration rather than repeating a value in multiple locations.
Then inspect Daybreak in an authorized new interactive session. This feature gate requires no relaxed sandbox, networking or approvals; organization controls still apply.
A visible entry still needs eligible routing
Visibility differs from authorization. Automatic routing requires eligible ChatGPT login, built-in OpenAI provider and currently supported model/program combinations. Enabling a flag does not grant all accounts the same capability.
Check CLI/gate, then login method, provider and account options. Organization administrators should confirm restrictions; changed IPs, regions or weaker security cannot supply eligibility.
Hypothetical unexecuted example: a thread previously saved Daybreak, then resumes after upgrade. Resuming alone does not open the new gate. Explicitly enable and confirm current model/account support before expecting automatic selection.
The merged change also gates resumed sessions and background turns. One new window does not prove all old tasks retain pre-upgrade routing.
Single exec overrides are an exception
Noninteractive codex exec retains --cyber-access-program as an explicit selection for that turn even when cli_daybreak is disabled. The TypeScript SDK option is cyberAccessProgram.
The merged change lists standard, daybreak_blue and daybreak_red. Choose only authorized model/program combinations; a parameter grants no missing server eligibility or account bypass.
An override does not rewrite the thread's saved choice. An authorized script turn selecting a program does not enable Daybreak in the next interactive launch. Manage persistent gates and single-request options separately.
This is not a universal command option. The change restricts review and cases such as fork without a prompt. Check actual command help and docs rather than transferring exec syntax to every command.
A new default model does not override explicit settings
Version 0.161.0 also makes GPT-6.1 Sol default in built-in and Bedrock catalogs and expands Bedrock support. That is independent of Daybreak opt-in; a model name proves no special access.
Explicit CLI, trusted-project, profile and user model configuration takes precedence over built-in defaults. Upgrading does not migrate every configured environment or historical thread automatically.
For team diagnosis retain version, gate, provider, configuration origin and actual options. Redact credentials and private tasks, and distinguish missing entry, eligibility failure and rejected one-turn parameters.

Frequently Asked Questions
Must I install 0.162 alpha for Daybreak?
No need to treat prerelease as stable. The official 0.161.0 entry already documents the gate. Check stable version, explicit enablement and account support. No client was installed or executed here.
Does automatic routing apply to third-party providers?
Do not assume so. It has built-in OpenAI-provider and account conditions. Check each provider implementation; a writable flag does not establish routing support.
Does this fulfill one day of Tibo's 28-day promise?
The verified fact is an independent CLI release. No explicit evidence associates it with a promised day, quota reset or universal account benefits.
