Key Takeaways
- Announced October 16, 2026, the labels have discounted rates, and Shopify says there is no added feature fee on top of a Shopify plan; each label is still billed when purchased.
- A Dutch fulfillment location can ship only to eligible addresses in the Netherlands. A Polish fulfillment location can ship only to eligible addresses in other EU countries, with no domestic Polish labels.
- Dutch parcels go to an eligible DHL service point or locker; Polish parcels must go to a DHL locker. Shopify marks an order fulfilled automatically, but the parcel still needs to be handed to DHL.
What launched, and are the labels free?
On October 16, 2026, Shopify announced that merchants shipping from the Netherlands or Poland can buy DHL eCommerce labels directly in Shopify admin. Shopify describes the rates as discounted and says there is no extra feature fee on top of a Shopify plan.
That does not make postage free. Labels are charged through Shopify's regular shipping-label billing process, and the rate depends on the Shopify account with DHL. Your fulfillment location must also be eligible for the country-specific service.
How do the Netherlands and Poland routes differ?
From a fulfillment location in the Netherlands, you can buy labels only for eligible addresses within the Netherlands. The Dutch DHL eCommerce service does not support cross-border shipping, and its carrier-calculated rates are not available at checkout.
From a fulfillment location in Poland, labels are available only for eligible addresses in other European Union countries; domestic Polish labels are not available. This is separate from DHL Express Europe and from US DHL eCommerce, which have different origins, destinations, and handoff rules.
How do you buy a label and fulfill the order?
Open an unfulfilled order in Shopify admin and choose Create shipping label. The order's address, items, and weight are prefilled, but check the recipient details and the parcel's actual weight and dimensions before selecting a service and printing.
You can buy a label for one order or select multiple orders and print in bulk. Shopify adds tracking, sends it to the customer, and marks the order fulfilled automatically. That status change does not hand the parcel to DHL; you still need to use the required drop-off location.
Check drop-off options and parcel limits first
In the Netherlands, drop the parcel at an eligible DHL service point or locker; scheduled pickups are not available. A service-point parcel can weigh up to 20 kg and measure up to 120 × 60 × 60 cm, with a maximum girth of 300 cm. A locker parcel can weigh up to 20 kg and measure up to 60 × 40 × 25 cm, and it must fit the locker compartment.
In Poland, drop-off is at a DHL locker only, with no scheduled pickup. Parcels must be at least 15 × 11 × 1 cm, no larger than 64 × 41 × 38 cm, and no heavier than 25 kg. Shopify's Poland guidance accepts soft packs that meet international packaging standards and excludes envelopes.
What else should you verify before buying?
Neither country's DHL eCommerce service provides carrier-calculated rates at checkout. Check your checkout shipping settings separately; the ability to buy a label in admin does not mean that the matching delivery option is already available to customers.
Unused Dutch and Polish labels expire 30 days after purchase. If DHL has not scanned a label, you can void it within 30 days and receive shipping credit. Dutch DHL eCommerce labels do not support return labels or signature on delivery, so confirm an alternative process if an order needs either service.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a Netherlands DHL eCommerce label to ship to Germany or Belgium?
No. A Dutch DHL eCommerce label is limited to eligible domestic addresses when the fulfillment location is in the Netherlands; cross-border shipping is not supported.
Can a Polish fulfillment location buy a label for a domestic Polish order?
No. Shopify's Poland DHL eCommerce labels are for eligible destinations in other EU countries, not domestic shipments within Poland.
Does 'no extra Shopify plan fee' mean postage is free?
No. Shopify says there is no added feature fee on top of the plan, but each shipping label is still charged through the regular label billing process.
Does automatic fulfillment mean DHL has received the parcel?
No. It updates the Shopify order status. Dutch parcels still need to go to an eligible service point or locker, and Polish parcels to a DHL locker; carrier handling starts after handoff and scanning.
