Service eligibility and regional restrictions
PuppyIP serves only compliant overseas businesses and their authorized personnel. Proxy services are not available in mainland China. The service may only be used for lawful business activities outside mainland China. Use of this service within mainland China is prohibited.
Hosting a proxy IP or server overseas does not change these restrictions. The service must not be provided to end users in mainland China through relaying, forwarding, sharing or resale. Before use, read the Terms of Service.
Key Takeaways
- Overrides can be longer or shorter than the default and target collections, products or variants. Different market rules are available only to selected merchants.
- The shortest matching override wins; final-sale products remain nonreturnable. Without an override, use the market rule, then the default if no market rule exists.
- Open Settings > Policies > Return and cancellation rules, choose the rule, add Return window override, enter Days, select targets and save.
- Changes affect future orders, not existing orders. Customer-submitted requests also require self-serve returns enabled.
- For EU consumers, Shopify recommends at least 14 days from delivery of the last item. Do not assume the platform automatically corrects a shorter override for compliance.
Overrides and market rules are separate capabilities
The September 29 changelog announces collection, product and variant overrides differing from default or market return windows. Help says an override can lengthen or shorten the default; that basic capability is not labeled early access.
Different return/cancellation rules by market are explicitly early access for selected merchants. Without a market-rule entry point, evaluate overrides under available default rules rather than assuming the by-market announcement authorizes every store. Check your admin and current help; no merchant account activation was verified here.
Evaluate four levels of precedence
Check final sale first: under Shopify rules, matching overrides do not make final-sale items returnable. For returnable items matching multiple overrides, the shortest wins. Shopify's example of default 30 days, collection A 14 and B 90 gives an item in both collections 14 days.
If no override matches, use the market window; without a corresponding market rule, use default. Market rules cover returns, cancellations and final sale and replace default policies in their market. This explains platform behavior, not exemption from statutory consumer rights; check product/destination requirements separately.
Configure the available rule in admin
Open Settings > Policies > Return and cancellation rules and select the relevant rule. With market early access, choose its market first, matching the changelog path. Without that entry, edit the available default rather than assuming you can create market differences.
Under Return window select + Return window override, enter Days, choose Collections or Products under Applies to and add collections, products or variants. Add another override for another target, then Save. Before saving, check overlapping collections, final sale, market and public policy; a long visible window may lose to a shorter matching rule.
Check future orders and self-service separately
Rules apply when customers order; changes affect future orders and do not recalculate existing ones. Use controlled test orders for markets, collections, products and variants. Existing orders follow their original rules and status, not the current admin setting as a new deadline.
Customers need self-serve returns and cancellations enabled to submit account requests. Without it, rules still apply to manually handled admin returns, so a missing button does not prove no rule effect. Written return/refund policies do not automatically include configured rules; review customer-facing text as well.
Review EU rights before shortening a window
Shopify recommends at least 14 days for EU consumers, starting at Delivery of last item in order, with weekend/holiday extensions as appropriate, pre-delivery cancellation and an accessible electronic entry. Market early access permits separate EU settings; without it, review defaults, overrides and actual sales locations.
Overrides replace default/market windows and shortest matching rules win, so an under-14-day EU override can conflict with that guidance. The docs do not promise automatic correction when statutory rights and shorter overrides collide. Configuration tools do not ensure legal compliance; have the responsible person review products, markets, exceptions and complete settings.
Verify scenarios and stop incorrect configurations
Check one override, overlapping long/short overrides, final sale, no override, and presence/absence of market rules. Verify new-order eligibility and customer entry, plus an old order retaining its original state. Record market, targets, days and test-order time. Missing target selection or early access is not a network diagnosis.
For unexpected windows check shortest overlaps, final sale, market eligibility and order creation time before repeatedly changing production rules. Handle affected orders from their records with human review. Exit IP changes grant no early access or different precedence. PRODUCT_FIT=NONE. No store eligibility or completed legal review is claimed here.

Frequently Asked Questions
When was this announced?
The changelog shows September 29, 2026. It covers collection, product and variant overrides, not a verifiable universal activation hour.
Can every merchant configure rules by market?
No. Help labels different market return/cancellation rules early access for selected merchants. Check the actual admin entry.
Which wins when 14-day and 90-day overrides both match?
The shortest, 14 days. Final sale still takes precedence over overrides.
Do new rules alter existing order deadlines?
No. Changes apply to future orders without retroactive recalculation.
Do rules work with customer self-service disabled?
Yes, for admin-handled returns. Customer account requests need self-serve returns enabled.
Can I immediately deploy an EU override below 14 days?
Do not infer compliance. Shopify recommends at least 14 days from last-item delivery, and does not promise automatic correction of a shorter override. Review products, markets and applicable requirements.
